Debra's Path to Confidence
Exercise and changing her diet helped Debra lose 50 pounds and, equally important, improve her health. Still, she remained self-conscious about her stubborn midsection. As a woman with 3 grown children, she was ready for some appealing contours and began thinking about getting plastic surgery in the Fairfield and Westport, Connecticut, area. She started researching plastic surgeons and landed on Dr. Ellen Mahony’s website.
“I Googled ‘female plastic surgeons’ because I knew I definitely wanted a female surgeon,” Debra says of her search. “Once I found Dr. Mahony’s website, I researched it inside and out. I was impressed by her training, experience, the patient testimonials, and the before-and-after photos I saw.”
Her consultation sealed the choice.
“I felt like I’d known her forever,” Debra says of her first impression of Dr. Mahony. “She’s the kind of person you know you can trust like an old friend. I also really liked her staff and felt that everyone treated me well.”
Debra decided to get an abdominoplasty (usually called a tummy tuck) and liposuction at the Westport practice. The tummy tuck removed excess skin and fat from the abdominal area and liposuction sculpted fatty tissue from the flanks.
After working out with a personal trainer for 4 years and changing her eating habits, Debra knew she was a good candidate for a tummy tuck and liposuction because of her dedication to getting physically fit before undergoing surgery.
“I worked out and dieted and I lost weight, but I felt that I’d reached a plateau and still had this extra fullness in my abdomen that I couldn’t get rid of,” Debra says. “I’d really felt self-conscious about my body for about 25 years, and it was time to do something about it.”
Once she started the process, the decision was easy.
“Dr. Mahony prepared me for what to expect each step of the way, from pre-op through the recovery,” Debra says. “Everything she told me would happen, happened.”
The bruising following surgery, she says, was a little scary and the surgical drains were annoying. But when looking at the big picture, Debra says getting through the recovery was a small price to pay. Her primary concern going into surgery was the tummy tuck scar, but she is very pleased with her result.
“It’s much better than I expected. And I’m really impressed with how perfect my belly button looks!”
A year after surgery, Debra continues to lose weight and is even more toned than before. Her confidence is reflected in her overall appearance. In short, she feels great.
Her advice to others considering plastic surgery, specifically body contouring procedures, is simple: Go for it!
“Don’t hesitate if you want it. I was initially a little anxious, but Dr. Mahony and her staff prepared me so well that I wasn’t even nervous on the day of surgery. The best part is the results look so natural. I look like myself again!”
