You may have heard of the skin care regimen known as “glass skin.” This 10-step skin care regimen originated in Korea over 15 years ago. It is an involved series of skincare treatments and products designed to create “glass skin.” This is a smooth, clear, and intensely hydrated complexion. But at Dr. Ellen Mahony’s practice, she can give you instant glass skin through a combination of different injectables made with very shallow injections across the face.

What Is Glass Skin?
For glass skin, Dr. Mahony takes a combination of injectables and injects them into the skin across the target areas. Unlike neuromodulator or dermal filler injections, which target wrinkles and lines, glass skin treatments focus on the skin’s upper layers. The goal is not to relax muscles or fill wrinkles; it is to lift and smooth the skin. This combination of injectables works to shrink pores and create, well, glass skin.
Candidates For Glass Skin
These injection sessions with Dr. Mahony only target the skin, where oil production, facial flushing, and acne occur. These injections are quite shallow, not down into the muscle, and they work to control oil and redness while making pores appear smaller.
Dr. Mahony adjusts every glass skin treatment to the patient. We all have unique skin, and one of the great aspects of these new treatments is that they can be adjusted to address your specific issues in the quest to attain glass skin.
Pretty much anyone who would like smooth, beautiful skin is a great candidate for glass skin treatments with Dr. Mahony. The only exception would be patients with dry skin, as reduced oil production would be counterproductive for their skin.
Results You Can Expect from Glass Skin Treatment
Glass skin treatments reduce pore size the most. The injection series helps tighten the skin, reducing the appearance of pores and brightening the skin.
Although the goal is not to relax muscles or fill lines, these injections decrease lines and creases, further smoothing the skin.
Its effect on the sweat glands helps eliminate breakouts. This occurs with the decrease in pore size, making them far less liable to accumulate oil and clog (the cause of a breakout).

Frequently Asked Questions
Your glass skin lasts for between 3 and 6 months with these injections. When you start to notice changes, such as enlarged pores and rougher skin texture, another glass skin session with Dr. Mahony will maintain your results.
Glass skin involves a mixture of injectables. These are “off-label” uses of these FDA-approved products, but that is not atypical in the aesthetic universe. For instance, Botox was approved by the FDA in 2002 for the treatment of frown lines between the eyebrows and forehead lines. However, aesthetic providers and doctors soon began using Botox to treat crow’s feet at the corners of the eyes, as these are also caused by muscle contractions. The FDA eventually added approval for Botox for addressing crow’s feet, but it didn’t make that approval for 11 years, in 2013. It’s assumed that the mix of injectables used in glass skin treatments will attain those approvals down the road. The risks are the same as with various injectables. Redness and slight swelling at the injection sites, although this is much less than with typical filler or neuromodulator injections that are made at greater depth. If you opt for some muscle-calming (although not to the degree of a neuromodulator injection), there is a long-term risk of muscle weakening. Dr. Mahony is a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive training in hand and microsurgery, as well as plastic and reconstructive surgery. For these glass skin sessions, she will make 40 to 50 targeted, very shallow, injections. Thanks to her extensive knowledge of facial anatomy and experience, you can trust that these treatments are very low-risk and highly satisfying.
Because Dr. Mahony makes these injections at a very shallow level, they can be more painful than traditional injectable injections. To address this, Dr. Mahony adds some Lidocaine to the formulation. Plus, we apply topical numbing cream prior to your session. This ensures your comfort.
