For many women, lack of sexual desire or other changes to their sexual health and satisfaction are challenges that can arise at various points in their lives – after childbirth, a medical issue, or with menopause. Whatever the reason, it’s a health concern that can seriously affect our moods, relationships, and overall well-being!
Thankfully, a relatively new treatment in non-surgical regenerative aesthetics called the “O-Shot” or “orgasm shot” has shown promise in treating various types of sexual dysfunction.
Dr. Ellen Mahony provides personalized PRP O-Shot® treatments in a compassionate, discreet setting focused on women’s wellness and confidence.
What is the O-Shot?
The procedure uses Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) taken from the patient’s own body and injects it into the clitoris and inside the vagina. This encourages cell renewal, which thickens vaginal tissue and stimulates lubrication. The thickened tissue adds support to the urethra, reducing stress incontinence. A thicker vaginal wall with improved lubrication vastly diminishes discomfort associated with intercourse. By improving neural growth, PRP makes the areas more sensitive to stimulation and arousal. The effects of the O-Shot have been shown to last for up to a year.
Another great part of this procedure – as with all PRP procedures – is that the substance used is from your own body and therefore there’s little to no risk of allergic reaction. Call the office for a consultation about this exciting new procedure.

Boost Your “O” with Complementary Treatments
Women who have struggled with discomfort and aesthetic dissatisfaction from lax, floppy tissue in their vaginal area can benefit from a labiaplasty procedure, which can be done at the same time as your in-office O-Shot. Add on a Vampire Wing Lift® to bring moisture and fuller, more robust, youthful tissue to this area.
Frequently Asked Questions
The good news is that this is a very safe procedure that uses your own plasma, along with a numbing solution at the injection sites. As with any medical procedure, make sure to select an experienced and trained doctor (Dr. Mahony is trained to provide the O-Shot) who follows proper protocols for both processing your blood and for performing safe, sterile injections. Following those guidelines – and what we’ve read and experienced with the O-Shot, there should be minimal risk of negative side effects.
The O-Shots are targeted to areas that are key for women’s sexual satisfaction. The first area is in or around the clitoris. The second area is the anterior vaginal wall (G spot area). Stimulating new blood vessels and collagen in these key areas helps increase sensitivity and sexual satisfaction.
The effects of the O-Shot will vary, patient by patient, but most reports indicate that the positive results last anywhere from 6-18 months, sometimes even longer!
We totally understand – we have an all-female staff, and it’s the first question everyone had about the procedure, so you’re not alone! Rest assured, we do everything to make you comfortable throughout the procedure. We use a topical numbing cream (lidocaine) and find that most patients feel no pain at all during the (quick) procedure.
No. The O Shot utilizes derivatives from your own blood to enhance physical and sexual comfort and pleasure. There are no foreign substances, chemicals, or hormones in the O Shot, so there is no effect on fertility.
Injectable treatments can cause swelling and bruising. To prevent excessive side effects, patients should avoid the use of NSAID medications and other blood thinners. Examples of products to avoid include aspirin, ibuprofen, Excedrin, Aleve, Ginko Biloba, and vitamin E. These should be avoided for one to two weeks prior to treatment. NSAIDS, in particular, can diminish the positive regenerative effects of PRP treatments, so they should also be avoided for two weeks after receiving the O Shot. The day before treatment, it can be beneficial to shave the labia majora, or at least trim the hair very short. This improves the visibility and accessibility of the clitoris and vagina during treatment.
The O Shot is a regenerative treatment designed to restore optimal blood flow and nourishment to a woman’s most intimate area. Stimulated by platelet-rich plasma, patients experience benefits such as increased clitoral sensitivity, rejuvenated vulvar skin, stronger orgasms, increased lubrication, and a decrease in stress urinary incontinence. While the O Shot works by helping to regenerate vaginal tissue and to heighten the sensitivity of the clitoris, it may be an overreach to call this a vaginal tightening procedure. Some tightening is expected, but this can vary from person to person. Patients are encouraged to discuss their concerns related to intimate wellness and vaginal atrophy with Dr. Mahony. Together, they can determine if multiple treatments may be more advantageous than a single O Shot.
The O Shot is a form of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. PRP is a blood product obtained from a blood draw at the start of the appointment. Blood products are obtained from the patient’s body and therefore do not fall under the FDA’s traditional regulatory guidelines. The lack of FDA approval does not diminish the safety profile for PRP. Blood products from the patient’s own body cannot pose a risk of adverse reaction. Furthermore, the sterile, disposable kits used to prepare blood serum are FDA-approved. Every PRP treatment is performed with a new kit, reducing the risk of blood-borne illnesses.
Many women have reported that the sense of engorgement they feel after the PRP is injected is similar to the fullness and engorgement they feel when sexually aroused. This familiar sensation can usher in successful intercourse later that day/evening, which is perfectly OK- in the absence of bleeding, bruising, or pain.

We have not seen bruising or bleeding in my practice. The best way to avoid these issues is to avoid aspirin and blood thinners for a good 2 weeks before the treatment and to use very tiny needles with accurate placement and meticulous injection technique.
An allergic reaction would be a true rarity because the PRP is your own and is a natural component of your blood. The O Shot is a DNA-driven procedure, and only your DNA will be effective for you. You are not allergic to your DNA or blood.
We have seen symptom improvement in more than 80% of the time. For those who feel there is improvement but not to the extent they had hoped, a second injection or a series of three is a reasonable option, and we have seen improvement in these cases. I would advise waiting a good 3 months to allow the biologic process to evolve before considering more.
Although some women tell me they notice improvement right away, it actually takes about 3 months for a biologic response to occur. Generally, it takes about 3 days for the excess fluid to be resorbed, 3 weeks for the beginning of a cellular change and 3 months for a change in biology.
