Skin Resurfacing in Westport, CT

A skin resurfacing is an ideal skin rejuvenation treatment if your facial skin has been damaged by acne, sun exposure, or hyperpigmentation. These procedures refine skin texture and remove unwanted skin blemishes and discolorations. The result is newly vibrant, beautiful skin that looks and feels younger and smoother.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ellen Mahony will explain the various skin resurfacing options she offers at her Westport, Connecticut, cosmetic surgery practice and recommend a customized treatment and skin care regimen for you.

Skin Resurfacing in Westport, CT

Types of Skin Resurfacing Available

Medical-Grade Peels

Chemical peels, like microdermabrasion, treat a variety of skin conditions from sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles to hyperpigmentation and acne scarring. But not all chemical peels are the same. Superficial peels – often performed by cosmetologists using lower strength solutions – mostly address the very top layers of the skin.

Under the guidance of a board-certified medical professional in our Westport, CT office, we offer stronger concentrations of the active chemical ingredients – often called “medium or deep peels” – to reach the deeper layer of the epidermis and the superficial dermis of the skin. As with all of our skin care treatments, the exact concentrations are tailored to each patient’s unique skincare needs, and their desired results and downtime. We’ll also recommend a follow-on regimen of topical products designed to enhance the peel’s results in the days and weeks following your treatment.

Trichloroacetic Acid Peel (TCA)

Another great “weapon” in the skincare arsenal, TCA is an in-office medium-depth peel that resurfaces skin at a slightly deeper level than just the top layer to reveal smoother, more luminous skin beneath, an excellent choice for those who want to more deeply treat fine lines, age spots, and acne scars, and generally improve the appearance and texture of the skin. TCA is a strong chemical peel, and our professional medical staff is highly experienced at tailoring the strength to your specific needs. More than one treatment is often recommended to increase effectiveness, usually with 1-2 months in between.

Derma-Lift/Peel

This combination treatment is designed to offer more comprehensive results than one treatment on its own – a dynamic pairing of a chemical peel and microdermabrasion. As with all of the skincare treatments offered in our Westport, CT office, they are guided by Dr. Mahony, a board-certified plastic surgeon, and tailored by our skincare team to your unique needs. First, microdermabrasion removes dead skin cells and stimulates collagen production. Then, a custom-strength peel is applied to chemically remove dead skin cells, stimulate collagen production, and deep-clean pores.

Crystal-Free Microdermabrasion

The microdermabrasion technique, developed in Italy more than 30 years ago, is a wonderfully effective way to diminish fine lines, pore size, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and sun damage. A unique alternative to chemical peels and laser treatments, the diamond-tipped wand used in this short, in-office treatment gently removes the topmost layer of dull, damaged skin, smoothing skin texture and promoting collagen development. Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)

Micro-needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is an innovative technology that rejuvenates the skin without injuring the protective epidermal layer. Unlike laser and radiofrequency devices, which can negatively affect the epidermis, CIT creates small, individual channels in the epidermis using tiny microneedles, triggering both collagen and elastin production. The end result is firmer, smoother skin with little to no downtime! These procedures can be paired with Hyaluronic Acid or Growth Factors, such as PRP, for even more powerful results.

ASK DR. MAHONY

Depending on your skin goals (book a skincare consultation with me to discuss: 203-221-0102)the type of peel will vary. If you’re on the young side and simply want a good cleaning and prep for other hydrating products, once a year might be enough. However, as we age, our skin demands more from us to keep looking good. To combat the ongoing ravages of time (and perhaps too much sun in warmer months) I recommend a quarterly visit. This also allows me to vary the type and strength of peel so that we can keep those fine lines and age spots at bay!
