Reveal Vibrant Skin with Resurfacing
Skin Resurfacing: Westport | Fairfield CT
A skin resurfacing is an ideal treatment if your facial skin has been damaged by acne, sun exposure or hyper-pigmentation. This procedure refines skin texture and removes unwanted skin blemishes and discolorations. The result is newly vibrant, beautiful skin that looks and feels younger and smoother.
Board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ellen Mahony will explain the various options for skin resurfacing she offers in her Westport, Connecticut cosmetic surgery practice and recommend a customized treatment and skin care regimen for you.
The Many Layers of Peels
Dr. Mahony’s multi-dimensional analysis considers all potential options, such as neurotoxins, dermal fillers, facial surgery and regenerative aesthetic procedures. For chemical peels, Ellen offers light, medium or deep options – each varying by intensity and recovery time. After your treatment, you can expect to see significant improvement in your skin, which will be visibly smoother, clearer and brighter. Pharmaceutical-grade products and a personalized skin care program can maximize your results.
Wearing sunscreen is particularly important following your chemical peel treatments. The younger, fresher skin revealed after a chemical peel can easily be burned if you spend much time outdoors without proper sun protection. If you don’t already use a high-quality UVA and UVB sunscreen, visit our Skin Care Products page to find one of our recommended products.
Medical Grade Peels
Chemical peels, like microdermabrasion, treat a variety of skin conditions from sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles to hyperpigmentation and acne scarring. But not all chemical peels are the same. Superficial peels – often performed by cosmetologists using lower strength solutions – mostly address the very top layers of the skin.
Under the guidance of a board-certified medical professional in our Westport, CT office, we offer stronger concentrations of the active chemical ingredients – often called “medium or deep peels” – to reach the deeper layer of the epidermis and the superficial dermis of the skin. As with all of our skin care treatments, the exact concentrations are tailored to each patient’s unique skincare needs, and their desired results and down time. We’ll also recommend a follow-on regime of topical products designed to boost the results of the peel in the days and weeks following your treatment.
For anti-aging, the VI Peel is a combination acid peel affecting more than one skin layer. It is a wonderful short down time treatment designed to reverse the effect of sun damage, environmental factors and time to enhance your skin’s natural beauty. The VI Peel can also be used to treat sun damage on the décolletage and hands. For acne, it is highly effective in clearing acne and impurities
Trichloracetic Acid Peel (TCA)
Another great “weapon” in the skincare arsenal, TCA is an in-office medium depth peel that resurfaces skin at a slightly deeper level than just the top layer to reveal smoother, more luminous skin beneath, an excellent choice for those who want to more deeply treat fine lines, age spots and acne scars and generally improve the appearance and texture of the skin. TCA is a strong chemical peel and our professional medical staff is highly experienced at tailoring the strength to your specific needs. More than one treatment is often recommended to increase effectiveness, usually with 1-2 months in between.
This combination treatment is designed to offer more comprehensive results than one treatment on its own – a dynamic pairing of a chemical peel and microdermabrasion. As with all of the skincare treatments offered in our Westport, CT office, they are guided by Dr. Mahony, a board certified plastic surgeon and tailored by our skincare team to your unique needs. First, the microdermabrasion removes the dead surface skin cells and stimulates collagen. Then, a custom-strength peel is applied to chemically remove the dead skin cells, stimulate collagen and deep clean pores.
The microdermabrasion technique, developed in Italy more than 30 years ago, is a wonderfully effective way to diminish fine lines, pore size, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and sun damage. A unique alternative to chemical peels and laser treatments, the diamond-tipped wand used in this short, in-office treatment gently removes the top most layer of dull, damaged skin, smoothing skin texture and promoting collagen development. Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT)
Micro-needling, also known as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), is an innovative technology that rejuvenates the skin without injuring the protective epidermal layer. Unlike laser and radiofrequency devices which can negatively impact on the epidermis, CIT creates small individual channels in the epidermis, via tiny microneedles, triggering both collagen and elastin production. The end result is firmer, smoother skin with little to no downtime! These procedures can be paired with Hyaluronic Acid or Growth Factor like PRP for even more powerful results.
ASK DR. MAHONY
Depending on what your goals are for your skin (book a skincare consultation with me to discuss: 203-221-0102, the type of peel will vary. If you’re on the young side and simply want a good cleaning and prep for other hydrating products, once a year might be enough. However, as we age, our skin demands more from us to keep looking good. To combat the on-going ravages of time (and perhaps too much sun in warmer months) I recommend a quarterly visit. This also allows me to vary the type and strength of peel so that we can keep those fine lines and age spots at bay!
