Are you tired of the stubborn FUPA fat above your pubic bone? This fat is very common. Even Beyoncé talked about her FUPA in Vogue magazine! Some women developed lower abdominal fat during puberty, and the area may grow larger as the years pass. It’s also common after weight gain. With a procedure performed by Dr. Ellen Mahony in Westport, you can say goodbye to this stubborn fat for good.
Dr. Mahony has been helping women feel their best throughout a 30-year career as a board-certified plastic surgeon. Understanding the vital importance of intimate health and well-being, Dr. Mahony is thrilled to offer specific procedures that help women address concerns related to the appearance of the upper pubic area.
What is a Monsplasty?
Monsplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that removes fat from the mons pubis, which is the area that extends from where your pubic hair starts down to the genitals. The internet abounds with information about exercise routines to lose your “FUPA,” or fat-upper-pubic-area. Oftentimes this fat lingers no matter how many planks you do! Monsplasty rids you of this bulge of fat for the long-term.
The mons pubis is composed of a fat pad that protects the underlying pubic bone. While it is necessary to have a layer of fat over the bone, an excess of tissue can result in a bulky, puffy appearance. Monsplasty is an excellent solution for women who want to feel more comfortable with this area of the body. The sculpting technique can be done independently or in combination with other body-contouring procedures, such as a tummy tuck.

FAQs
Monsplasty is performed on an outpatient basis. In an accredited surgery center, the surgical process begins with local or general anesthesia. How you will be anesthetized depends on your preference and also the extent of your procedure. It is a decision you and Dr. Mahony make after your consultation.
The procedure is minimally-invasive and typically takes 1 to 2 hours. Depending on the type of anesthesia used, a patient may remain at the surgical center until their sedative wears off. To shape the mons pubis, the surgeon may remove excess fatty tissue using liposuction. This technique involves a tiny incision and use of a narrow cannula to suction fat and restore attractive contours. Monsplasty may also involve tissue tightening if necessary. This technique, performed after liposuction, is performed through incisions under the belly button and at the top of the mons pubis. The muscles are raised toward the abdomen and tightened. Skin is treated in the same way. Excess is trimmed and incisions are closed with stitches.
