Get Glowing with the PRP Vampire Facial
We’re excited to start offering one of the latest innovations in skin rejuvenation, Platelet Rich Plasma facials, in our Westport, CT offices. The PRP facial uses your own plasma to “wake up” the stem cells deep within the dermis, stimulating them to produce more collagen, repair the elastin fibers and increase blood flow. All of these actions make the skin appear more youthful.
One of the unique and exciting aspects of this treatment is that patients notice continued improvement in their skin for several months after receiving the treatment. That’s due to the fact that their own cells are producing more collagen and growing new cells! It really lasts and can continue to have positive effects on the skin as long as 18 months to two years. It’s one of the most natural ways to combat aging — in fact, the FDA has no regulations on PRP because it simply uses components from the patient’s own body.
What is a Vampire Facial?
The Vampire Facial® approaches aging skin from its surface. Using a small instrument (micropen), thousands of tiny punctures//channels are made into the surface of the skin at variable depths, from 0.5 to 2.5mm. In this case, as soon as the punctures/channels are made, your PRP is saturated through the punctures/openings, seeping into the skin from its superficial surface. Healing is then hastened as each puncture/channel site, seals itself, from the deep to the superficial skin surface. As such, this process not only tightens and smooths your skin but additionally stimulates your stem cells to repair, regenerate and differentiate into younger, more vital cells.
We combine PRP with micropenning to ensure the platelet-rich plasma is infused deep into your skin tissues for maximum effect.

ASK DR. MAHONY
Good question and one I answer a lot from my patients. I generally recommend three PRP sessions, spaced one month apart. While there is nothing wrong with doing just one treatment, the benefits of the growth factors are cumulative so it’s really optimal if the platelet infusion is repeated. The good news is that the repair and restore process begins immediately therefore you see visible improvement of fine lines, reduced pigmentation issues and improvement in your skin’s texture right away. I like to describe it as the best facial you’ve ever had, with benefits that keep on giving! And since this procedure is regenerative – i.e. ongoing – it takes about three months to see the cumulative effects from your boosted collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid production and the thickening of the skin matrix. All in all, PRP is a wonderful way to use your body’s own biologic material, PRP, to combat the signs of aging naturally with as many sessions as your budget and time allow.
