Westport, Connecticut (May 2010) – Post-pregnancy plastic surgery is growing in popularity with women over 40, according to board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Ellen Mahony. She says that combined procedures like tummy tuck and breast enhancement in Connecticut are catching on so quickly with older moms that they may soon become more common than mommy makeovers for women in their 20s and 30s.
“As more and more women are waiting until a later age to start their families, it’s no surprise to see the number of mommy makeovers performed for women in their 40s increase as well,” notes Dr. Mahony. “Pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding all take a toll on a woman’s body, and older moms often find it’s harder to ‘bounce back’ to how their body used to look.”
Dr. Mahony cites the increased birth rate for women over 40 as one reason why mommy makeover procedures are on the rise for this patient group. Statistics recently released by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention report that birth rates in general for women over 40 are increasing noticeably, a development that Dr. Mahony suspects may shift the “typical” age for post-pregnancy options like liposuction in Connecticut.

While Dr. Mahony says moms over 40 are still choosing the most common mommy makeover procedures such as Connecticut breast enlargement and tummy tuck, even slight differences in physical needs and aesthetic goals can require changes to her surgical technique.
