Dr. Mahony preps for a PRP Facial

We’re excited to start offering one of the latest innovations in skin rejuvenation, Platelet Rich Plasma facials, in our Westport, CT offices. The PRP facial uses your own plasma to “wake up” the stem cells deep within the dermis, stimulating them to produce more collagen, repair the elastin fibers  and increase blood flow. All of these actions make the skin appear more youthful.

One of the unique and exciting aspects of this treatment is that patients notice continued improvement in their skin for several months after receiving the treatment. That’s due to the fact that their own cells are producing more collagen and growing new cells! It really lasts and can continue to have positive effects on the skin as long as 18 months to two years. It’s one of the most natural ways to combat aging — in fact, the FDA has no regulations on PRP because it simply uses components from the patient’s own body.

We combine PRP with micropenning to ensure the platelet-rich plasma is infused deep into your skin tissues for maximum effect.

I’m over 50 years old — can a PRP Facial work for me? Should I combine it with fillers or use alone?

Well, isn’t 50 the new 40? We certainly think so! It’s a great time to add PRP Facials into your overall skincare regimen (which should include liberal use of a medical grade sunscreen!). This innovative procedure actually stimulates your skin to create and build up collagen which can reduce wrinkles and help with your overall skin texture. Injectable fillers would be used in addition to your PRP facial to fill in facial hollows, lift your cheeks or to contour the jawline.

How many PRP sessions do you recommend for ideal results?

Depending on the condition of your skin and the results you desire, we generally recommend 2 or 3 PRP sessions, spaced one month apart. It is important to remember that results aren’t immediate — this procedure actually stimulates collagen production deep in your dermis — therefore it’s important to wait awhile to assess the outcome and next steps.
